Robert O’Connor – “Art of the Letter” Jun 13 – Aug 1
Robert O’Connor is pleased to present his calligraphic work including work from his time at The Cooper Union as well as more recent paintings. He will also exhibit two French Book of Hours pages from the 13th and 14th Centuries. Letterforms have evolved over the millenia from pictograms of everyday objects to the abstract forms that we recognize today. They are one of the most important developments in human history giving us a way to communicate, record and express our lives in profound and powerful ways. This exhibition uses calligraphy both as a means of communicating meaning through words as well as the expressive quality of their forms.
Robert O’Connor taught calligraphy at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art and continues to use letterforms in his prints and paintings.
